State Farm Logo Meaning

The modern State Farm logo is a simple triangle made from three red-and-white oval coins. Each coin originally represented one of the company’s core insurance lines, auto, life, and fire, though the current minimal design no longer spells that out with text. The three-part structure has stayed consistent for decades, even as the surrounding framing and lettering were simplified over time.

State Farm Logo History

The first State Farm logo, from 1922, was an oval badge with a car illustration in the center and text reading “Service. Satisfaction. Economy,” reflecting the company’s founding focus on auto insurance.

In 1936, the design shifted to three oval badges arranged in a triangle, done in red and gold. By 1943, the coins had shrunk and returned to a simpler monochrome look, paired with a building illustration and cursive lettering.

The 1953 version placed three red coins inside a rounded square badge, with “State Farm” above and “Insurance” below, and each coin individually labeled “Life,” “Auto,” and “Fire.” This badge-and-wordmark combination stayed in use for over 50 years.

In 2006, the design was streamlined: the badge moved to the left of an enlarged, italicized red wordmark, and the wordmark could also stand on its own without the emblem. The most recent redesign came in 2012, when Chermayeff & Geismar simplified the emblem further, stripping away the framing and text labels to leave just the clean triangle of three coins, the version still used today.
